FEBRUARY 26, 2025 – MORRISTOWN and SUMMIT, NJ –Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center have been named among the world’s best hospitals according to Newsweek for the seventh consecutive year.

The national publication, in partnership with market and consumer data analytics company Statista Inc., today named both hospitals to their list of the World’s Best Hospitals. In addition, both Morristown and Overlook are ranked among the Best in Infection Prevention.

In total, 2,445 hospitals are ranked for this seventh edition of the list, including 420 hospitals in the United States. Of the US hospitals ranked by Newsweek, Morristown is ranked 51 – the highest ranking of any New Jersey hospital, and Overlook is ranked 183. These two Atlantic Health System medical centers join the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins among others on this prestigious list.

The World’s Best Hospitals 2025 ranking lists the best hospitals in 30 countries: USA, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, India, Spain, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Israel, and Singapore. The countries were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living/life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals, and data availability.

Newsweek and Statista awarded the best hospitals based on four data sources:

  • Recommendations from Medical Experts: Online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals, and hospital managers in 30 countries
  • Results from Patient Surveys: Survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization
  • Hospital Quality Metrics: Medical indicators e.g., data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety, and waiting times.
  • Statista PROMs Implementation Survey: Optional online survey on the implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.

Based on the above four pillars and their respective weights, a final source was calculated for each hospital.

“Everything we do centers around providing the highest quality patient care, and to be recognized as a world’s best hospital by Newsweek, is deeply humbling and a well-deserved recognition for our exceptional medical staff, nurses and all team members who are selflessly dedicated to healing,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president, Morristown Medical Center. “To earn 51st place among hospitals throughout the United States is especially meaningful to those we care for, as well as their families and loved ones, and to everyone in our community, as it is an esteemed recognition further validating our extraordinary, world-class care.”

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized again among the World’s Best by Newsweek, and a direct reflection of how Overlook places quality, safety and exceptional care at the center of everything we do,” said Stephanie Schwartz, FACHE, president, Overlook Medical Center. “This kind of consistent achievement is possible due to the unyielding dedication of every member of our Overlook team, from the greeters at our doors, to the physicians, nurses and care professionals, to environmental and food service teams. In every interaction, we strive to make the Overlook experience positive and the care we provide exceptional for our patients and their loved ones.”
