Peter Everett Sugarbaker, DO

Peter Sugarbaker, DO, is a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist with Atlantic Medical Group. Board-certified in family medicine with subspecialty certification in sports medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, he has clinical expertise treating a wide variety of patients, from high school to Division 1 athletes as well as recreational athletes. He strives to provide early and accurate diagnosis of musculoskeletal injuries and believes in providing conservative treatment options whenever possible to support a rapid, but safe, return to sport or physical activity. In addition, Dr. Sugarbaker aims to educate active people on ways to prevent injury. He is also trained in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound to diagnose injuries as well as provide safe and effective injections including corticosteroid, viscosupplementation and platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
After earning his doctorate in osteopathic medicine at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, PA, Dr. Sugarbaker performed his family medicine residency at St. Luke’s University Health Network - Warren Campus in Phillipsburg, NJ, and then a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Temple University Health System, Philadelphia, PA. During his residency and fellowship, he served as a team physician for local high schools and colleges including Drexel University. During his fellowship, he also has the opportunity to train under the guidance of the team orthopedists for the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers.
Dr. Sugarbaker has coauthored studies in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented at several national conferences. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the American College of Sports Medicine and a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
