The location of the heart in the body.

Candidates for a heart transplantation typically have heart failure that hasn’t been resolved through other treatments. Common causes include cardiomyopathy, congenital heart defects and heart damage from a heart attack.

Atlantic Health System’s heart failure program at the Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center partners with NYU Langone Health’s Transplant Institute to care for heart transplant patients. The goal of this joint program is to personalize each patient’s evaluation by a team from Morristown Medical Center and NYU Langone to look for the best treatment options, such as heart transplantation.

NYU Langone is the number one heart transplant center in the Northeast, with the shortest waitlist times and highest one-year survival among high-volume centers. Expert care is coordinated between NYU Langone in Manhattan and Morristown Medical Center, close to home in New Jersey.

Coordinated Care

Heart transplant care will begin at Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center with our heart failure program. Our multidisciplinary team, which includes physicians, advanced practice nurses, and registered nurses, will evaluate your condition and perform a variety of tests to determine if a heart transplant is the best option for you. We’ll answer any questions you and your family may have.

Heart Transplant Surgery

When a suitable heart becomes available, you’ll have surgery in Manhattan with the NYU Langone Transplant Institute. They offer an innovative surgical approach, experienced transplant team and a state-of-the-art facility.

Immediate post transplant care will be at NYU Langone with the goal to transition all continued post care to Morristown Medical Center.
