Newton Medical Center Foundation Launches Capital Campaign Effort to Boost Hospital Expansions

Newton Medical Center prioritizes patient experience with facilities improvement campaign

NEWTON, NJ – JULY 12, 2023 – Newton Medical Center Foundation, the philanthropic arm that supports Atlantic Health System’s Newton Medical Center, recently launched its “Your Care, Our Future” campaign to aid facility projects
designed to enhance the patient experience, provide greater comfort and create a more healing environment for patients on their healthcare journey.

“Your Care, Our Future” will assist the restructuring and designing of three main areas, including a new Behavioral Health Patient Unit in the Emergency Department, a newly enhanced Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a Maternity Department transformation.

“Newton Medical Center has a long-standing, rich history in This community and seeing the evolution and progress of the hospital over the years has been an absolute privilege,” said Bob Adams, president of Newton and Hackettstown Medical Centers. “These enhancements will give our clinicians and team members the modern tools and resources to continue to deliver the best care to our patients, close to home.”

Newton’s need for services and space have increased significantly in all three of these key areas particularly since 2020. From the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak through today, patient numbers utilizing behavioral health services are increasing rapidly every day. Similarly, as the crisis evolved, Newton needed to quickly expand its critical care capacity and equip the ICU with state-of-the-art technology.

The campaign will support the following projects:

  • Construction of a new Behavioral Health patient unit in the Emergency Department with four new treatment rooms, built-in televisions and special doors to ensure comfort and safety for patients. Additionally, there is a new nursing station designed for team member safety and a redesigned family lounge and consultation room.

  • Enhancements to Newton Medical Center’s ICU that will include newly designed nursing stations for the best function and care, new corridors and finishes throughout the entire unit and a reconfigured core to expand caregiver workstations. The ICU will also be fully prepared in case of a pandemic with the addition of 10 new private patient rooms with negative pressure capability and strategically placed power outside rooms for IV polesand patient monitoring.

  • Major renovations to the Maternity Unit will include a spa-like atmosphere with state-of-the-art equipment, 17 private suites with new furniture and amenities. There will also be a quiet workspace for partners in addition to sleeping accommodations for them.

“We are so fortunate to be supported by such a generous and compassionate community of loyal donors and friends,” said Megan Sandow, Chief Development Office, Newton Medical Center Foundation. “Each of these initiatives will have a tremendous impact on our community and play a role in transforming our hospital.”

With a goal of $3.5 million, Newton Medical Center is well on its way. The Behavioral Health Unit was completed earlier this year in January. The other two projects – the ICU redesign and the Maternity Department transformation – are expected to begin soon.

“A gracious community partner pledged a lead gift of $1 million to our “Your Care, Our Future” campaign that helped us to hit the ground running. As of today, we have raised $2,632,041 toward our goal of $3.5 million,” said campaign chair, Tom Ryan. “We have our donors, friends and community to thank for that as the many benefits of this campaign will extend well into the future.”
